Icon Alliance Dark & Icon Alliance GT Motorcycle Helmet Recall
There is a voluntarily recall on Icon Alliance Dark Helmets manufactured from January 2017 through July 2017, and Icon Alliance GT Horror and Rubatone helmets manufactured between March 2017 and July 2017. This recall applies to both helmet models in sizes Extra Small (XS), Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), Extra Large (XL), Double Extra Large (2XL), and Triple Extra Large (3XL). These helmets are classified as “potentially affected helmets” that may contain a defect related to motor vehicle safety. Faulty stitching on the nylon webbing attached to the D-rings may possibly not remain secure within the webbing, resulting in the possibility of the D-rings to separate from the chin strap. In the event of a crash, the wearer may not be adequately protected, increasing the risk of personal injury or death. The entire production lot will be recalled in abundance of caution, and replacement helmets will be provided free of charge to owners of the potentially affected helmets. To determine if your helmet is subject to this exchange program, please do the following:
1.Confirm that the model name “Alliance” or “Alliance GT” appears on the DOT certification label on the back of the helmet as shown below
2. Confirm that the helmet is an Alliance Dark, Alliance GT Horror (Red or Blue), or Alliance GT Rubatone, as shown below:
3. Inside the helmet and under the comfort liner is a date label affixed to the expanded polystyrene (“EPS”) liner. Confirm that the label:
a. Indicates a Month/Year that falls within January 2017 (01/2017) through July 2017 (07/2017) for Alliance Dark Helmets, or March 2017 (04/2014) through July 2017 (07/2017) for Alliance GT Rubatone or Alliance GT Horror Helmets; and
b. Does NOT have a green check mark on the date label as shown below. Any helmet that has the green check mark on the date label has been examined prior to sale and found NOT to have the defect at issue in this recall.
If your helmet meets the above criteria, please cease using the helmet. Owners are urged to contact the manufacturer directly for further instruction on arranging replacement of affected units.
